What Coaching Is


Coaching emerged from a synthesis of various fields including the human potential movement, training, change management, psychology and systems science. Each of these fields has their own models and approach. The various schools of thought agree that coaching works.


Coaches address specific personal or professional goals, broad conditions and transitions in a client’s profession, personal life, or relationships by examining what is happening now, discovering obstacles or challenges, and choosing a course of action.


Results of coaching may include more life satisfaction and motivation, increased confidence, clarity of goals, improved productivity, greater life balance, ability to see different perspectives, positive change, emotional growth, and professional gains.
